Outdoors
Heated driveways and walkways were considered luxuries that only wealthy could afford. In recent years, heated driveways and walkways became very popular. Homeowners as well as businesses are taking the advantage of the ease of the radiant snow melting system. Clearing hazardous snow and ice no longer involves hours of shoveling. Risks of personal injury from snow removal and de-icing as well as the risk of slips and falls are minimized. The snow melting system not only adds value to your home or business but is environmental friendly. The need for salt and ice-melting chemicals becomes a thing of the past.
Driveway/Walkway Coverings:
Concrete, asphalt, pavers and tiles can be installed over outdoor snow melting system.
How Is It Installed?
Insulation with aluminum reflector is placed over gravel. Wire mesh is installed on top of the insulation. ½” Pex-Al-Pex tubing is laid evenly and attached to the wire mesh.
How does it Work?
Just like the indoor radiant heating system, the water that runs through the PEX tubing is heated by a heating source such as boiler, melting snow and ice without the use of harsh chemical de-icers.
Pex Tubing
Installation of a snow melting system requires the use of ½" Pex-Al-Pex tubing. Pex-Al-Pex tubing consists of 1 layer of aluminum core placed between 2 layers of Pex. Aluminum core works as reflector giving off heat evenly. Besides having all the advantages of Oxygen barrier Pex tubing, Pex-AL-Pex may be used when application of higher temperature is required. Pex-AL-Pex tubing is more durable and resistant to outside damages.
